"How can you simply build when you don’t have the title?" YB Zaki
Land title poser in Gua Musang
Terence Fernandez and Maria J. Dass
(TS) GUA MUSANG (Nov 1, 2010): There is a spanner in the works in the federal government’s low-cost housing scheme in Taman Kesedar Sejahtera here.
The almost-complete project in a picturesque area that was once part of Chin Teck estate, 3km from town, risks being a squatter settlement as the Kelantan South Development Authority (Kesedar), which is developing the scheme, has yet to receive the land titles from the state for the 200-acre (80.9ha) property.
"How can you simply build when you don’t have the title?" asked state deputy speaker and PAS Information secretary, Mohd Zaki Ibrahim.
While there is no indication that the state government will sabotage the RM95 million project, Kesedar is not taking any chances and has its paper work in order to counter any future problems.
It is learnt that in 1984, 300 acres was acquired from Chin Teck Plantations for the purpose of a low-cost housing project for the hardcore poor (those with household income of RM440 and below).
To avoid hefty taxes, the property was transferred to the state government, which was then under the Barisan Nasional, in trust for Kesedar.
However, problems occurred when the state fell to PAS in 1990.
